Center of Water Efficiency Excellence

The Center of Water Efficiency Excellence (SWEET) was launched in 2010 and has got off to a flying start in 2011. Its research centers incorporate the leading expertise in water management in a new way: all operations are based on our customers’ needs and user-oriented thinking.

Our strategic partners in SWEET are, apart from VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) and Tekes (The Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) in Finland, the Finnish companies Outotec and Metso, Singapore's National Water as well as Nanyang Technological University (NTU), to name a few.

SWEET innovations implemented throughout the organization

One of the main R&D achievements in 2011 was the new innovation process that has been put into practice to cover all operations of Kemira. This means that SWEET not only works to cater for the result of the R&D, but it also involves the sales, marketing, production, and all other different functions of the company. This makes SWEET a development program for Kemira as a whole, with the purpose to scale up innovations from the laboratory to pilot projects at our clients' facilities as quickly as possible.

Research within SWEET involves about 30 ongoing development projects. SWEET has generated new sales for Kemira in 2011: for example, novel antiscalants for the oil and mining industry, a new application area for Kemira, which represents the innovative aspect of SWEET, and desalination pilot projects, which very much depend upon close cooperation with our customers.
