Fields of Research and Development

Most of Kemira's research and development is done within the primary areas of business, where these activities’ short- and mid-term development are handled within the units’ own research organizations.

Corporate R&D

Corporate R&D work concentrates on high-risk/high-reward development projects, which typically involve several business areas and outside partners.

The corporate R&D resources are distributed among our three research centers, located in the Finnish cities of Espoo, Oulu, and Vantaa. The three sites offer world-class skills and facilities for all main businesses.

  • Espoo Research Center
  • Oulu Research Center
  • Vantaa Research and Development Center

Corporate R&D is strongly networked with globally leading universities and institutes.

Competence centers

Kemira’s three competence centers manage the corporate R&D projects. They operate as a virtual organization in cooperation with our research centers and with outside partners such as research institutes, universities, and customers.

The Competence Center for Fiber Line (CCFL), based in Vaasa, Finland, develops new technologies applicable within the forest cluster.
The Competence Center for Water Research (CCWR), based in Oulu, Finland, develops new water treatment technologies and solutions for industrial and municipal customers.

The Recycling Competence Center (RCC), based in Helsingborg, Sweden, develops technologies for minimizing environmental effects and creating value from waste streams.
