FennoBond 4000X is a new hydrogel dry strength agent (HDSA) which increases paperboard strength properties by 10-20%. In grades such as testliner, fluting, coreboard, grey board and gypsum board, FennoBond has been proven to increase CMT, SCT and mullen burst strength at equal grammage.

Thus, for the first time, FennoBond gives board makers the cost advantages of either going to a lower grammage, while retaining strength specs, or using a higher percentage of lower-quality recycled paper for cost savings on fiber.

Simply put, you can get higher strength from your existing furnish or the same strength from a cheaper furnish. The result is cost savings and a better competitive position!

Lower quality fiber and closed mills are no problem

In board mills, the increasing use of lower-quality recycled paper, combined with very closed white water systems, leads to extremely high levels of calcium, COD and conductivity. This buildup significantly reduces the effectiveness of the standard wet-end cationic starch which has traditionally been used for dry strength.

Very importantly, FennoBond 4000X tolerates high calcium in the wet-end, as well as high COD and conductivity. So it works well in the poor fiber quality and high impurities environment that today’s board makers are faced with.

Strength when you need it

FennoBond can be used continuously, or in campaigns when extra strength is needed due to raw material quality or seasonal variation.

Key benefits

  • 10-20% increase in strength such as critical CMT, SCT and burst at same grammage
  • Allows lower grammage while retaining strength
  • Ability to use lower quality recycled paper, giving important cost savings on virgin fiber
  • Tolerates high calcium impurities in the wet-end, as well as high COD and conductivity
  • Strength-on-demand. Use it only when needed.
  • Proven effectiveness on OCC-based testliner, fluting and coreboard machines
  • Allows a more closed water loop, saving fresh water and the associated costs

FennoBond 4000X is now available in Europe only.
