Thickening
Thickening is practiced in order to remove as much water as possible from an intermediate process stream. It is usually accomplished by allowing the solids to settle to the bottom (gravity thickening) or by floating the solids to the top of the liquid (flotation). Other methods of thickening are by centrifuge, gravity belt, and rotary drum thickening. These processes offer a low-cost means of reducing volumetric loading of sludge to subsequent steps.
The chemical treatment of this process is very industry specific. The chemical treatment programs can range from highly anionic to highly cationic, very low molecular weight to ultra high molecular weight , and even from coagulant to flocculant. Kemira is a world leading producer of inorganic coagulants and organic polymers. We offer a wide range of high-quality products and we are continually developing new products and processes for environmentally-responsible and cost-effective water treatment. We can offer the best chemical solution to any thickening application due to our very wide selection of inorganic coagulants, organic coagulants, and high molecular weight flocculants.
