Silage

Ensiling of forage crops can be divided into three different phases: Aerobic phase, anaerobic phase and semi aerobic phase at the feed out. Kemira AIV® / KemiSile silage additives improve ensiling in all phases.

In the aerobic phase AIV® / KemiSile silage additives lower the pH of the raw material thus reducing the respiratory losses before closing of the silo. In addition they directly inhibit growth of undesirable microbes and help to consolidate the raw material in the silo.
 
In the anaerobic phase AIV® / KemiSile silage additives rapidly decrease pH of the ensiled material which supports lactic acid fermentation and effectively inhibits harmful microbial growth and undesired secondary fermentation. In addition restricted fermentation saves nutrients (sugars, amino acids) to the animals and thus improves the nutritive value of silage.

In the semi aerobic phase after the silo has been opened AIV® and KemiSile silage additives prevent heating and aerobic spoilage of silage, which means less losses and increased nutrient intake at feeding. Recommended application rate is from 3 to 5 liters per tonne.
