Bulking sludge and foam is a complicated and unpredictable challenge for many wastewater treatment plants globally. Formed at various locations in the plant – in biological tanks, secondary sedimentation basins, aerobic or anaerobic digesters, and dewatering devices or even in the treated effluent – it suddenly appears without any obvious warning. The sludge will not settle properly and huge amounts of soft foam can float all over the plant; in aerators, sedimentation basins and in extreme cases all the way into the car park outside the premises.
Apart from the nuisance, bulking sludge and foam decrease the efficiency of the plant and may also make it difficult to achieve the required performance criteria. As the foam contains large amounts of bacteria, it is also a health and safety hazard for personnel.
Kemira FilamentEx™ concept
We can help you to deal with this challenge. Kemira FilamentEx™ is a concept aiming to have full control over the filament content in the wastewater – not only by testing and analyzing, but also by giving the right "medicine" in the right doses at the right time for each specific wastewater treatment plant.
