Sludge Treatment

Sludge is formed when organic material and other unwanted substances are precipitated out of the water. It is either sedimented, or made to float on the surface of the treated water. Reducing sludge volumes is essential in all kinds of water treatment.

Sludge treatment/dewatering and disposal of sludge is in general very costly for a municipal wastewater treatment plant. It is therefore of importance that sludge volumes are kept at a minimum. A high dry solids content reduces the sludge disposal cost.

Products

We provide products for sludge treatment/dewatering. We have a great variety of polymers designed for sludge dewatering to achieve optimal process results. In some cases our iron-based coagulants can also be beneficial in this process. A combination of a polymer and a coagulant normally gives improved dewatering properties, but can also lead to reduced emissions of hydrogen sulphide and ammonia.

With our broad product range we can offer one or a combination of products to get the most out of sludge dewatering. With our products, one or more benefits are achieved:

  • Reduced sludge volumes
  • Reduced sludge disposal cost
  • Improved reject water quality
  • Healthier working environment
  • Lower energy cost

Kemira KemiCond® solution

Through the Kemira KemiCond technology we can also offer a complete solution for sludge management that gives benefits far beyond any traditional sludge treatment technology.
