Slop/Tramp Oil

Waste oil streams are produced by many processes in petrochemical operations. It is challenging to recover oil from the waste streams or slop oil with minimum disruption to the operation of a refinery or plant. The first step in reprocessing these waste oil streams is to characterize them sufficiently to know how to treat the slop oil.

The slop oils can be either oil-in-water or water-in-oil emulsions and this nature determines how they can best be handled. If the waste is determined to be water in oil it is treated with emulsion breakers. If the slop oil is oil-continuous the treatment program will usually involve pH adjustment, heat, and the addition of treatment chemicals.

We offer chemicals to treat every type of slop oil – inorganic coagulants, organic coagulants, high molecular weight flocculants, water-soluble and oil-soluble demulsifiers.

The correct combination of these processes and products will provide a cost-effective solution that can provide clean oil for recovery, good quality centrate, and a dry, easily disposable cake. The correct combination of these processes and products will deliver a cost-effective solution that provides clean oil for recovery, good quality effluent water, the best separation of the differing layers and the smallest possible rag layer.
