Sulphur Products

Environmental aspects are vital in the global community. Recycling of process chemicals is environmentally sound and in the long run cost-efficient as the treated residual chemicals can be put back into the process. Kemira is looking into new solutions for sulphur management in chemical pulping and we are ready to help you find a key to sustainable development in this area.

Sulphuric Acid

Sulphuric acid is used in large volumes for pH-adjustments and chlorine dioxide generation. Outside the bleaching plant sulphuric acid is also used for tall oil splitting. Sulphuric acid is the most commonly used chemical in the world and used in almost any industry cluster from metal production to pharmaceuticals.

Kemira's sulphuric acid grades are sold in Finland under the trade name Acipro, a guarantee for purity and excellent logistic solutions. Acipro stands for safety, cost-efficency and reliable deliveries.

Sulphur dioxide

The strong reducing properties of sulphur dioxide make it a valuable chemical for producing bleaching chemicals, e.g. chlorine dioxide and sodium dithionite. It is also used for elimination of residual peroxide or chlorine dioxide, as the final stage in the bleaching process.

Aluminium Sulphate

In the paper mill alum is used for sizing. Both within and outside the pulp and paper industry alum is used in water treatment as well.

Sodium bisulfite

Sodium bisulfite is a reducing agent used in applications similar to sulphur dioxide in sulfonation in CTMP production. The sodium bisulfite is also used together with Borino in on site production of sodium dithionite for bleaching of mechanical pulps. It is also well-suited in removing residual bleaching chemicals.
