The use of commercial printing paper is driven by advertising needs – print performance, and the cost and value of printers and converters. Kemira offers a range of technologies to address these needs in a unique way.
Our KemForm retention program, combined with coated broke and deposit control as well as advanced process monitoring techniques, enables us to achieve higher productivity and allows the selection of more cost-efficient raw materials. At the same time, our Kemwhite functional pigments for coating create cost savings through lower binder demand and offer unique value through higher whiteness, ink gloss development and improved performance in offset printing. Paper whiteness development can be supported in a comprehensive way – from the bleaching of fibers to shading and fluorescence whitening in paper base sheet and coating.
Globally, Commercial Printing Papers has achieved a production volume of around 33 million tons per year. Although regional overcapacity has created high cost pressures on both paper producers and printers in traditional markets, demand within the advertising industry for high quality, high whiteness printed papers will continue in the future. Moreover, new features such as the personalization of advertising will create new challenges.
