Kemira offers newsprint producers a range of unique technologies. Our proven Fennopol retention concept is a robust system helping newsprint producers achieve maximum productivity. We have also developed unique tools for managing wet-end chemistry. Examples of these are Kemira Flyto for agglomeration tendency monitoring, Kemira Biostrix for on-line biofilm monitoring and Kemira FennoDose and FennoData for on-line chemical dosing optimization. Other unique Kemira technologies for newsprint are our low alkali deinking concept and Kemwhite filler technology.
World production of newsprint totals roughly 39 million tonnes per year. North America and Western Europe still dominate newsprint production, accounting for 34% and 28% of global output respectively. The main consuming region, on the other hand, is Asia, with 32% of world consumption. Newsprint demand in North America has been declining since 2000 and with flat demand in Europe, Asia has been driving global demand over recent years and will continue to do so. The number of copies sold in the top 5 newsprint markets is lead by China with 100 million, followed by India with 79 million, Japan with 70 million, the USA with 53 million and Germany with 22 million copies per day.
