Office Papers

Dynamic changes in a more and more digital world, consumer habits in media use and printing technologies are calling for cost efficient production and recycling technologies for office papers. Paper surfaces must fulfil end user demands on visual perception and print reproduction. Kemira’s product offering supports these needs in many steps of the paper production and recycling process.

Our KemForm retention and strength enhancement programs create evenness as well as better profitability through enhanced filler or lower raw material costs. A differentiated portfolio of functional and sizing chemicals allows the papermaker to adjust quickly and flexibly to the needs of new office print technologies. Our unique dyes, FWA’s  and Kemwhite fillers allow to continue the trend for higher whiteness in a cost efficient way.

Global production of office paper grades has reached around 40 million tons per year. Office papers include mainly uncoated wood fine papers (UWF) and envelopes, dominantly at 80 g/m². A small fraction of office paper is coated for high quality inkjet purposes. Consumption and production are going down in mature markets like North America and Western Europe whereas Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America see healthy growth between 2,5–4,5%.
