Our products play an important role in providing performance for the leather and tanning industry.
Our formic acid has been used for many years in the production of soft, top quality leather. It is used in various processes, especially in pickling, deliming and tanning; it promotes the even absorption and fixation of the dye, and helps to keep the leather free from harmful microbes. Being totally biodegradable and free of sulphur compounds, formic acid poses no problems to waste water treatment systems.
In tanning a more even and rapid penetration of the tan can be achieved by using Kemira’s sodium acetate as the washing salt. Waterproofing of leather can be obtained with the help of zinc acetate treatment.
We are the world's largest producer of organic salts and blends. All our products for the leather industry are fully tested in the our in-house laboratories, and fully meet or exceed international quality standards.
