Kemira Paper Chemicals announces global price increases

Helsinki, February 7, 2008 — Kemira Paper Chemicals announces price increases on paper chemicals between 5 and 15% depending on products and regions. The price increases will be effective for all deliveries on or after March 1, 2008 and will be applied in accordance with specific contract terms as needed.

“As we all know, our industry is experiencing unprecedented escalation in raw material costs,” says Frank Wegener, Global Head of Paper Chemicals. “Although we continue implementing measures to mitigate the effect of these cost increases on our business, we need to pass along a portion of these increases in order to secure our long-term financial stability and technological advantage.  We are committed to our customers’ success. We are committed to making our customers uniquely competitive.”

Appointments

Jyrki Mäki-Kala has been appointed President of Kemira Pulp&Paper business area and member of the Kemira’s Management Board as of January 1, 2008. He previously held the position as Vice President, Finance & Control in Kemira Pulp&Paper business area. 

New Sales and Marketing Company in St. Petersburg, Russia

Helsinki, April 5, 2007. - Kemira has established a new company in St. Petersburg to look after the sales and marketing of pulp and paper chemicals in Russia.  The company, OOO Kemira HIM, will function as the main contact to customers in Russia. Sales and marketing connections will be transferred to Kemira HIM from the joint venture ZAO Kemira-Novo, which will continue to manufacture paper sizing chemicals in Arkangelsk.

Kemira HIM enables Kemira to significantly reinforce and rationalize its customer services in the growing Russian pulp and paper chemicals market. Kemira’s main customers include several major companies such as Ilim Pulp, International Paper/Svetogorsk, Arkangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill, and Mondi/Syktyvkar. The company also sells chemicals to customers in other fields of industry.

Kemira HIM has offices in St. Petersburg and Moscow as well as in Arkangelsk. At this stage, the company employs a staff of 15 persons.

Inauguration of Paper Chemicals Plant in China

On February 1st, Kemira inaugurated a new plant for paper chemicals in Yixing, China, as part of its global strategy to increase presence on emerging markets.

The new plant is located on Kemira's production site in Yixing industrial park, around 160 kilometers from Shanghai, where the company's Kemira Water business has manufactured water treatment chemicals, basically flocculants, since 2001. At the moment Kemira has a total staff of 200 in China.

Appointments

Harri Kerminen has been appointed President, Pulp and Paper Chemicals business area as of 1 November 2006. He previously held the position as President, Performance Chemicals business area.

 

New business unit names: Pulp Chemicals and Paper Chemicals

Kemira Pulp & Paper Chemicals has changed the names of two of its strategic business units to better indicate the broadness of the solutions offered by respective unit. The new names are Paper Chemicals (former Specialty Chemicals), headed by Frank Wegener and Pulp Chemicals (former Bleaching Chemicals), headed by Jarmo Savolainen. The name of the third strategic business unit remain as before, i.e. Additives, headed by Randy Owens.
