Kemira's acquisition of Lanxess Paper Chemicals Unit confirmed
Helsinki, April 3, 2006. The deal between Kemira Oyj and the German company Lanxess AG on the acquisition of Lanxess´ Paper business unit announced in December 2005 has reached closing. The responsible antitrust authorities agreed to the transaction on March 1, 2006 and Kemira took over the business on April 1, 2006.
The main range of Lanxess´ products consists of colourants, fluorescent whitening agents and sizing agents. Another large part of the net sales comes from toll-manufactured products traded for the pulp and paper industry. The unit has production plants in Leverkusen, Germany and in Bushy Park, South Carolina, USA, and employs 375 persons globally. In 2004, its net sales were approx. MEUR 240.
After the Lanxess acquisition, Kemira will be the leading supplier of chemicals to the pulp and paper industry worldwide. Pulp & Paper Chemicals, being one of Kemira´s four core business areas, will reach net sales of approx. EUR 1.1 billion with a staff of 2500.

Technical and equipment facilities opened in Quebec, Canada
KENNESAW, Ga., February 7, 2006- To enhance customer support following the closure of the Montreal facility, Kemira has opened a technical facility at the Paprican site in Pointe Claire, Quebec along with a new equipment facility in Shawinigan, Quebec. Kemira is an innovator in the industry and the technical center will allow for more rapid deployment of technology and quicker response to customers in North America. Kemira also recognizes the crucial role of customer site chemical make-down and dosing equipment to ensure the highest quality of delivery to the process. The new equipment facility will enhance performance of our chemical delivery systems.

Kemira's Pulp & Paper Chemicals restructures to add customer focus

Kemira to acquire Lanxess Paper Chemicals Business
Helsinki, December 20, 2005. - Kemira Oyj and the German company Lanxess have reached an agreement on the acquisition of Lanxess' paper chemicals business by Kemira. The acquisition will make Kemira the biggest supplier in pulp and paper chemicals globally.

New paper chemicals plant in China
Helsinki, November 11, 2005. - Kemira is to start up a production plant for specialty pulp and paper chemicals in Yixing in China during the first half of 2006. The unit will be built alongside Kemira’s existing water treatment chemicals plant located around 160 kilometers from Shanghai. Including the new plant, Kemira’s investment in chemicals production in Yixing will total some CNY 60 million or EUR 7 million. The new paper chemicals production line will use the infrastructure, administrative services, and utilities of the existing water treatment chemicals plant – and will bring the number of people employed at the site to nearly 200 people when it comes on stream next year.

Price increase for Kemira's specialty chemicals in Europe
Due to the increase in the cost of energy and oil-based raw materials Kemira's Pulp and Paper Chemicals division in Europe will increase prices for the specialty chemicals. Kemira has executed efficiency programs to keep increases at minimum. ASA and rosin sizes will have 15-25 % increase also due to availability issues. Other product groups will have increases ranging 10 – 25 %. The price increase is effective November 1, 2005, or as contract permits.

Price increase at Kemira Pulp & Paper Chemicals in North America
Kennesaw, Georgia, October 3, 2005— Kemira Chemicals, Inc., the North American operation of Kemira Oyj announced a 10% price increase for all product lines effective November 1, 2005. Additional increases will be imposed on products more heavily impacted by the continued rise in raw material and energy costs. These escalations have intensified following hurricane activity in the Gulf. In addition, a fuel surcharge program based on escalating freight costs will be implemented for customers with delivered pricing.

Lauri Junnila appointed President of Kemira's Pulp & Paper Chemicals
Lauri Junnila, M.Sc. (Eng.), eMBA, has been appointed President, Kemira Pulp and Paper Chemicals business area, and Executive Vice President, member of Kemira's management board as of 1 October 2005. He will join Kemira from his current position as Senior Vice President, Strategy & Finance in Metsä-Botnia. Prior to his current position Lauri Junnila has held several demanding positions relating to sales, production and business responsibilities in Metsä-Botnia and M-Real. He has extensive international experience in the pulp and paper and board industry. Lauri Junnila will report to CEO Lasse Kurkilahti.

North American price increase
KENNESAW, Ga., US, March 18, 2005 - Kemira Chemicals, Inc., the North American operation of Kemira Oyj announced today it will increase prices for all product lines effective May 1, 2005. Increases will range from 10% to 15%, with higher impact on polymer products, defoamers containing silicone and oil, and acrylic acid based products.
This action is necessary with the continued escalation in raw material, energy, and freight costs.

New President for Pulp & Paper Chemicals in North America
Mr. Hannu Melarti has been appointed President of Kemira's Pulp & Paper Chemicals business in North America as of March 1, 2005. He will be based in Kennesaw, Ga. Hannu Melarti joins Kemira from Metso Corporation, where he has served as President of Metso USA Inc.

A native of Finland, Hannu Melarti has lived in the USA since 1991 and prior to that in Sweden where he worked for SCA Svenska Cellulosa and Sunds Defibrator.
