Kemira’s acquisition of Brazilian water treatment chemicals company Nheel Química Ltda has been confirmed. The acquisition will further strengthen Kemira’s presence in Latin America’s biggest and fastest growing water treatment market in Brazil. Nheel Química is the second largest producer of iron salts and largest producer of aluminium salts for water treatment in Brazil. In 2007, Nheel Química’s revenue was approximately EUR 26 million. The acquisition has been approved by the Brazilian anti-trust authorities.

This acquisition will give Kemira the opportunity to offer a full range of coagulants to its customers in Brazil. Nheel Química serves customers mainly in municipal drinking water treatment and on sewage water plants. Due to tightening environmental legislation the coagulant consumption is expanding rapidly in Brazil’s major cities including the largest city Sao Paulo.

“Acquisition of Nheel Química will further reinforce Kemira’s position as the market leader for water treatment chemicals in Brazil”, states Pekka Ojanpää, President of Kemira’s Water business. “It will significantly increase the revenue of our business in the fast growing water treatment market in Brazil and give us a solid production structure as we get a well integrated production plant in Rio Claro in the state of Sao Paulo”, Ojanpää continues.

Kemira is the leading global expert in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment and in process water and drinking water treatment. Kemira provides products and services for municipal and industrial water treatment.
