Kemira at the Baltic Sea Days in St. Petersburg on March 22 – New approaches for efficient and environmentally sound waste water treatment

Kemira Oyj participates in the XII International Environmental Forum “Baltic Sea Day” on March 21-23, 2011 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Kemira organizes on March 22, 2011 an awareness-raising roundtable “New solutions and old challenges in wastewater treatment plants”  with the support of the BSAG Foundation, Finland and in successful cooperation with HELCOM and the main organizer of the conference SpbOO”Ecology and Business”.

“The purpose of the roundtable is to raise awareness among stakeholders on the eutrophication problems of the Baltic Sea and what new possibilities there are for environmentally sustainable and efficient wastewater management in the Northwest region of Russia, including St.Petersburg, Leningrad, Kaliningrad, Pskov and Novgorod Oblasts and Karelia. One of our main goals is to share knowledge of the current best practices in the wastewater treatment,” explains Aija Jantunen, who is one of Kemira’s key speakers in the round table.

“Effective waste water treatment, nutrient load reduction, improved and safe sludge handling are in a key position when improving the efficiency of the plant and minimizing the environmental impacts of the waste water treatment process”, continues Aija Jantunen, head of Kemira’s Municipal & Industrial segment’s operations in Finland and the Baltic countries.
 
The roundtable will gather different stakeholders in water management such as policy and decision makers, solution providers, researchers, public and governmental organizations in the Northwest region of Russia as well as invited representatives of water enterprises from Belarus. Kemira Oyj, Finland and Vodokanal St.Petersburg, LLC Ecovod, Russia will present technical innovative solutions in phosphorus removal, energy efficient waste water treatment solutions and sludge utilization for mega-cities and middle-sized cities. The subject of funding opportunities for middle- and small-scale projects will be presented by the NIB BSAP Fund and the John Nurminen Foundation from Finland. Pöyry Finland will share a case from Brest, Belarus.
