On October 18, 2016, Kemira received the prestigious Grand Slam Award from the Association of American Railroads (AAR) at the combined Hazmat and Tank Car Committee meetings held this week in Galveston, Texas.
Receipt of this award is true recognition of Kemira’s ongoing commitment to safety and railcar management best practices. Following our first Grand Slam award in 2012, Kemira implemented a paperless inspection system at all our Municipal & Industrial manufacturing sites that further enhances the inspection process and improves efficiency.
The criteria for receiving this award includes being recognized by at least four class 1 railroads and having zero non-accidental releases (NARS) during a calendar year. Such releases can occur during loading or off-loading of products or in-transit due to improperly secured railcars.
In 2015, Kemira’s North American operations completed 6,872 shipments of hazardous materials without any non-accidental releases and was recognized as a recipient of 4 major railway safety awards including:
- CSX Chemical Safety Excellence Award
- CN Safe Handling Award
- UP Pinnacle Safety Award
- NS Thoroughbred Safety Award
From manufacturing the product to delivering to our customers, safety is our first priority, says Lucy Pouliot, Senior Manager, Rail Logistics.
As a responsible company, it is our obligation to ensure that we maintain the highest standards in inspecting, loading/unloading and securing tank cars. We are honored to be recognized by AAR as one of 33 companies to receive the 2015 Grand Slam Award. This is an amazing achievement for our team who handle such a high volume of shipments while demonstrating our strong commitment to safe practices and processes.
