The Millennium Youth Camp attracted over 1600 applicants

In its third year the Millennium Youth Camp attracted over 1600 applicants from over 100 countries. Now, after a five month selection procedure, 30 camp participants have been selected. Kemira has contributed in the creation of this event all the way from the idea stage.

MYCamp will take place between June 9-15 in Helsinki area. During the week they will visit Helsinki University and Aalto University and participate the prestigious Millennium Technology Prize gala. They also get a chance to meet the Technology Prize finalists.

The water team in 2012 MYCamp has an exciting geography: two participants come from Africa, one from Australia, one from Canada, one from Thailand and one (the only boy this time) from Romania. In the last stage of the selection procedure the applicants prepared project plans for micropollutants in water systems.

The team will visit Kemira’s Espoo R&D Center on June 12th and they will be instructed by professors Tuula Tuhkanen (Technical University of Tampere) and Olli Varis (Aalto University), supported by Kemira scientists, especially Dr Tatjana Karpova. Ilkka Pollari (Director, IP Management) is the chairman for the water team.

MYCamp is a networking event for talented youth (16 to 19 years) within five fields of interest: climate change, renewable energy & resources, water, applied mathematics and ICT. The camp is organized by Technology Academy of Finland and Helsinki University.
