Wastewater disinfection

Kemira KemConnect® DEX is a chlorine-free automated disinfection solution.

Water can be disinfected and reused using a variety of methods. Kemira KemConnect® DEX is an environment-friendly, chemical disinfection solution. It is efficient and reliable, and able to disinfect all kinds of water even under changing process conditions. The solution is based on performic acid. It is halogen-free, so it does not form the halogenated disinfection by-products — such as trihalomethanes and AOX — associated with chlorine-based disinfection. Performic acid is generated on site as an equilibrium mixture and decomposes rapidly. Residual performic acid, formic acid and hydrogen peroxide are present at levels depending on dose, contact time and water matrix, and can be monitored using established analytical methods.

Performic acid is highly effective at low doses with flexible disinfectant feed rates.

Cost efficient and convenient

Unlike UV disinfection, KemConnect DEX requires a low capital investment and has a low energy demand, decreasing your operational costs. The on-site PFA production system is compact and can be used to disinfect all kinds of water.

Automated dosing and full process visibility

The disinfection process is monitored and controlled through a secure online platform. Customized email and SMS notifications and reports keep you informed about the process status.

FennoSurf 600 (Precursor for the Generation of Performic Acid) has been approved by the EPA (EPA Reg. 9386-51) as of May 5th, 2025. US state registrations for Fennosurf 600 are in progress and must be confirmed prior to any offer for sale. Pesticides being sold or distributed in Canada must be registered with Health Canada’s Pesticide Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) under the Pest Control Products Act (PCPA). Fennosurf 600-C has been approved by PMRA (PMRA Reg. No. 35896) as of March 05, 2026.
