ÖTILLÖ – The Swimrun World Championship is a race in a unique environment: teams of two race together for 75 kilometers from island to island (Ö till Ö). The teams swim between the islands and run on them. The race was held on September 1.
Kemira’s employee Juha Lindfors (Manager, Project coordination, R&D) took part in the race for the second time with Armin Hummel, his teammate from Germany. They completed the race with a time of 9:49:10, placing 12th overall.
Juha shared the team’s thoughts after the race: We are done! Completely tired and happy with the time and our 12th place in the race. We had promised to donate 10 EUR for each step up in the final results compared to last year (overall 40th). This was an improvement of almost 2 hrs and 28 positions higher than last year, which will result in a donation of 280 EUR to the Baltic Sea Action Group.

Raising awareness for the Baltic Sea
Naturally the Baltic Sea plays a vital role in the race and therefore the event is also perfect for raising awareness regarding the state of the sea itself. Around 90 million people live in the Baltic Sea area and are affected by the poor ecological status of sea which is considered to be one of the most polluted seas in the world.
Therefore in addition to sponsoring Juha’s team, Kemira also donated 2 000 euros to The Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) as a part of the company’s community involvement activities. BSAG acts as an initiator and catalyst behind concrete acts aimed at tackling the complete range of challenges to the Baltic Sea.
In case you are interested in contributing to BSAG’s work, one can make a donation to the group. By donating, you will help the group to reduce eutrophication, hinder toxic waste from ending up in the sea and contribute to safe maritime activities.
