Aligning with the World Environment Day on June 5, 2015, Kemira Nanjing site held an Open Day event themed as “Chemistry – A Way to Better Life”. 49 students and teachers from the Nanjing Forestry University (NFU) visited Kemira Nanjing plant in China.
In the beginning of the first session Simon Liang, the Nanjing site EHSQ manager, gave a brief safety training to all visitors and Joe Chan, the China President, delivered a welcome speech. After that Jade Zheng, the Senior Specialist of APAC Communications, gave a Kemira introduction and presented the Environment day’s history. David Huan, Nanjing site manager, introduced the Kemira Nanjing plant, and Simon Liang demonstrated the importance of the company’s responsible care for the environment. Subsequently Nancy Guo, the APAC Application sizing manager, represented Kemira’s main paper products and technology profiles respectively. The student representative Gao Yin, also delivered a speech and expressed his appreciation to Kemira for the public event.
During the second session of the plant tour, all the students and teachers were divided into 3 groups for the site tour that included for example a visit to the manufacturing workshop, operation room and lab.
After the plant tour, the students and teachers had a very enthusiastic discussion with Kemira representatives during a tea break session. All the visitors and Kemira representatives together signed their names on the joint poster, which celebrated environment protection and green life style.
The feedback from students was very positive and active. “This was a really exciting experience for us to visit a chemical manufacturing plan and also to learn about Kemira’s business, water treatment and the paper industry. We clearly noted the company’s commitment to sustainability and responsible care for the industry,” said Professor Cao Haifeng, who is the Vice Director of the NFU.
“The Open Day event creates a good opportunity for Kemira to show the public that modern chemical manufacturing operates in an environmental-friendly and sustainable manner. It also allows all the visitors to communicate with the company representatives face-to-face,” said Joe Chan.
