KEMIRA INVESTS INTO PRODUCTION OF FEED AND FOOD ADDITIVES IN CHINA

(Press Release)

Kemira increases its production capacity of calcium propionate used for feed and food industries by establishing a production site in China. The site’s production capacity will be 15 000 mt, and it will be ready by year end 2008 at Kemira’s site in Yixing, East China. The investment includes also production capacity for feed additives mixtures. Establishment of the production facility strengthens Kemira’s position as the leading producer of calcium propionate, and creates the basis for developing Kemira’s market position as the leading solutions provider for the feed and food industry.

Kemira produces calcium propionate in Tiel, the Netherlands. Calcium propionate is a salt used as a preservative in food and feed industries. Its global consumption is increasing steadily as the standard of living and population is growing, especially in Asia. Calcium propionate is used at an increasing pace for industrial feed preservation.

“The Yixing facility is a practical example of our increasing presence in the growing Asian markets supporting Kemira’s strategy. The investment supports our goal to become the leading solutions provider for the feed and food industry, and enables us to serve our global customers better”, says Petri Helsky, Business Unit Manager of ChemSolutions.

Business unit ChemSolutions specialises in organic acids and acid derivatives for demanding customer applications and generated revenues of €170 million in 2006. ChemSolutions has been part of Kemira’s Pulp&Paper business as of July 1, 2007.
