The world of flocculants

Over the next 20 years the worldwide demand for usable water will increase considerably. This is caused by population growth and an increasing amount of prosperity. Water is not only used by people – the industry will also need a large amount of water in the future. For example, 16.000 liters of water are used for the production of a pair of shoes! Supply of water does not, however, increase. To maintain this supply, flocculants are made in Kemira’s factory in Rotterdam. Flocculants are molecules that enable polluted water to be recycled for the industry.

A flocculant is a long molecule with branches which move like a small fishnet through water. It collects all the polluted parts, says Henk Quarles van Ufford, Managing Director of Kemira Rotterdam. Watch the video to learn more!
